Robert Goodin a grandi en Californie, et a commencé à travailler dans l'industrie de l'animation après son diplôme de l'école secondaire. Il a fondé Robot Publishing, un collectif de huit artistes (comprenant Joy Kolitsky, Anthony Yukojevich, Michael Kenny, Jennifer Yuh Nelson, Cathy Malkasian et Andrew Brandou), et qui ont publié l'anthologie "Oden" en 1998.
